Mountains

I have loved mountains my entire life. One of my earliest memories is standing in front of our Pasadena house looking up at the San Gabriel Mountains and my mom saying, "Remember these mountains, there won't be any where we are moving." She was wrong,  you just had to drive up into New Hampshire to get to them. I grew up hiking and skiing in those mountains. Later after college I moved to California, first to Sacramento and then the Bay Area. I fell in love with the Sierra Nevada mountains, the "Range of Light" is how John Muir described them. Throughout my adult life I have spent time in mountains wherever I am.

This is South Lake above Bishop California in the High Sierras. It is a starting point for high basins. Just down the hill is Parcher's Resort. A great old time Sierra resort with cabins, a restaurant and pack station.

Long Lake is on the trail from South Lake to Bishop Pass in the High Sierra. We have hiked past this lake many times, both for day trips and starting backpack trips.

Clean, pure water. The Lyell Fork of the Tuolumne River in Yosemite National Park.

Moving abroad, this is the Wetterhorn in the Bernese Oberland of Switzerland. We have spent many pleasant hours hiking in this area. A great bonus of Swiss hiking is the frequent stübli and restaurants one encounters along the way.
